Awareness Training on Disaster Risk Management and Review and Update of Dzongkhag Disaster Management and Contingency Plans ( 22 October 2022)

The Department of Disaster Management, Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs, in collaboration with the Mongar Dzongkhag administration, and the Royal Bhutan Police, began the Disaster Management Risk Management advocacy and awareness programme in Mongar today. The programme started with the welcome by the Mongar Dzongkhag Disaster Management Officer and the keynote address by the Officiating Dasho Dzongdag.

The participants were the newly elected gups, mangmis, Gewog Administration Officers, officials from the Dzongkhag, Royal Bhutan Police, Royal Insurance Corporation of Bhutan Limited, Livestock Sector, and the Regional Revenue and Customs Office.

During the three-day disaster management awareness programme, the participants will be given awareness on common terms and terminologies used in disaster management, overview of disaster management in Bhutan, disaster management institutions and their roles and responsibilities, proceedings of mockdrill, and Disaster Reporting Protocols and Operational Guidelines for Disaster Financing 2017. The advocacy programme will be complemented by the multi-hazard disaster preparedness audiovisual presentations. Based on the presentation of the Mongar Dzongkhag Disaster Management and Contingency Plan, the Dzongkhag DMCP will be reviewed and updated. The programme will be concluded by a fire safety presentations followed by practical session on the use of different types of fire extinguishers and the causality lifting.
