Public Announcement

In continuation to an article published in Kuensel dated Friday October 10, 2014 where a press release from the Department of Hydro-met Services under the Ministry of Economic Affairs stated that Bhutan might be impacted by the rain caused by the Cyclone Hudhud which is moving from the Andaman Sea towards north Andhra Pradesh and Odisha in India on October 12.

The Department of Disaster Management under the Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs therefore would like to caution all travelers to be safe while on the road and also to avoid unnecessary late night driving especially on the risky areas. In addition learning from last year’s bitter experience where many of our farmers in different parts of the country lost their paddy harvest to rain induced by cyclone in the neighboring countries. Therefore, to avoid similar losses the Department would like to caution the farmers and request them not to harvest their paddy till the cyclone has subsided.

In order to minimize the loss of lives and properties the Department would like to request the general public especially travelers and farmers to kindly adhere to this announcement.
