Disaster Management (DM) Act-2013 review Consultation Meeting for Central region in Bumthang Dzongkhag (08-09/08/2022)

As per the directives of the Honorable Prime Minister (Chairperson, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA)), the Department of Disaster Management (DDM), Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs (MoHCA) has initiated the review of DM Act 2013 through the support of World Bank under “Strengthening Risk Information for Disaster Resilient in Bhutan” Project. The review is initiated through joint efforts of National and International consultants in close collaboration with DDM.

Thus far, the consultant have completed a literature review of both international and national best practices, lessons learned, gaps and challenges in policies and frameworks in light of COVID-19, climate change and pandemic response management. Further, to drive review through the lens of wholesome and inclusiveness, multi-agencies and cross-sectoral views and feedback are paramount, especially LG functionaries who are the key partners in implementing this Act.

The review consultation meeting kicked off from Central region (Bumthang Dzongkhag) and will be conducted in other 3 regions (Eastern, Southern and Western). The review is being facilitated by the National consultant in collaboration with DDM, MoHCA. The Offtg. Dasho Dzongda, sector heads, Gups, Gewog Adm. Officers and regional heads of the dzongkhag are attendees.
